PMMA (Acrylic)
Also called: Polymethyl methacrylate, acrylic, acrylic sheet
PMMA (acrylic) is a glass-clear, weather-resistant plastic used in sheets, signage, lighting and lenses, recycled from sheet offcuts and moulding scrap.
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), known as acrylic, is an amorphous thermoplastic with excellent clarity, gloss and weather resistance. It is stiffer but more brittle than polycarbonate. Its density is about 1.18-1.19 g/cm3. It falls under resin code 7 (other).
Recycled forms traded
- Cast and extruded sheet offcuts from signage and fabrication shops.
- Moulding rejects from lighting, lenses and automotive lamp covers.
- Acrylic regrind and recycled granules in clear and coloured lots.
Why it matters when buying recycled plastic
- Cast acrylic sheet generally does not remelt well in moulding machines; ask whether scrap is cast or extruded sheet.
- Protective film, adhesive and printed layers must be removed for clear end uses.
- Clarity is the main value, so even small amounts of contamination or mixed colour reduce the grade.
- Keep it dry and check MFI for injection moulding.
Common uses
Signage, display stands, lighting covers, lenses, lamp covers, sanitaryware, glazing and decorative items.
For signage and lighting, ask for colour-sorted lots and inspect a sample under good light before committing to a full load.
