How to Get More Buyers for Recycled Plastic Granules in India

Many recyclers make good granules but still struggle to sell them steadily. Orders come in bursts, buyers disappear after one lot, and rates get pushed down because the buyer cannot tell your material apart from cheaper offers. The recyclers who build a stable customer base usually do a few unglamorous things consistently well.
This guide covers the practical steps that make manufacturers trust your granules and come back for more.
Consistency is your best sales tool
Processors set up their machines around a material. If your next lot runs differently, they lose time, raise rejects and start looking elsewhere. Consistency matters more than perfection.
- Keep feedstock segregated by polymer, source and colour, and avoid mixing streams just to fill an order.
- Blend within a lot to even out variation, and give every lot a number.
- Control MFI within a stated range, and tell the buyer that range honestly.
- Use proper melt filtration and change screens on schedule.
- Store finished granules dry and covered.
Test reports buyers can trust
A simple, honest test report for each lot sets you apart. Depending on the polymer, include MFI with the test condition (such as 230 °C/2.16 kg for PP or 190 °C/2.16 kg for PE), density, ash content, moisture and colour. For PET, include intrinsic viscosity. Where the buyer needs it, add mechanical properties such as impact and tensile strength from an outside lab.
Keep retention samples so you can investigate any complaint against the same lot. Our recycled plastic quality checklist shows what many buyers expect.
Samples, photos and a clear product sheet
Samples
Most serious buyers will want a trial before ordering. Send samples drawn from the actual lot, in sealed and labelled bags with the lot number. Follow up after a reasonable time to ask how the trial went, and ask for specific feedback if it did not work.
Photos
Take clear photos in daylight: a close-up of granules on a plain surface, the packed bags and, if possible, a finished product made from your material. Avoid filters that change the colour.
Product sheet
A one-page sheet for each grade should cover polymer, form, colour, feedstock source, typical test values, suitable applications, packing and monthly capacity. Grade pages such as recycled PP granules and recycled HDPE granules show the kind of details buyers compare.
Documentation and compliance
Larger buyers increasingly need paperwork as well as material. Keep these ready:
- GST registration and proper tax invoices;
- consent to operate from your State Pollution Control Board;
- CPCB registration as a plastic waste processor, if you hold it;
- records of feedstock sources and production, which also help with traceability for buyers working on recycled content and EPR.
Read EPR basics to see how this connects to producers and brand owners.
Responsiveness and reliability
Buyers remember who replied quickly and who delivered on the promised date. Reply to enquiries the same day where you can, even if only to say when a quote will follow. Quote clearly: rate, basis (ex-works or delivered), GST shown separately, packing, lead time and payment terms.
It helps to think about what the buyer has to explain internally. A purchase manager who recommends a new recycled supplier is taking a risk with the production team. Clear quotes, on-time samples and complete documents make that recommendation easier, and a buyer who has had a good experience will often introduce you to other plants in the same group.
Dispatch what you promised, and tell the buyer early if anything changes. When a complaint comes in, respond with facts, check your retention sample and resolve it fairly. A well-handled complaint often builds more trust than a smooth first order.
Reach more buyers through PlasticSetu
Platforms like PlasticSetu help suppliers reach manufacturers they might not find on their own. When you list your materials, your listing stays private to you and the sourcing desk. When a buyer requirement matches your grade, the desk contacts you for a quotation, arranges samples and tracks dispatch. Start with the sell plastic scrap page to see how it works.
