PET Bottle Scrap is scrap PET sourced from pet bottles. Scrap is material as collected: sorted by polymer, grade and colour, but not yet ground or pelletised. It is the lowest-cost way in and suits recyclers who wash, grind and extrude in-house.

What to check before you buy
- IV: Intrinsic viscosity (dl/g) shows the molecular weight of PET. Fibre, sheet and bottle applications each need a different IV range.
- Colour: Agree the colour (natural, white, coloured or black) and how consistent it must be between bags and lots.
- Moisture: Moisture causes bubbles, silver streaks and weak parts. Ask for the moisture percentage and whether the material needs drying before use.
- PVC contamination: Even a little PVC in PET degrades it during processing. Ask for PVC content in ppm.
- Lot check: Ask for photos of the actual lot, whether it is post-industrial or post-consumer, polymer purity, moisture, and how much label, paper, metal or other polymer is mixed in. Confirm the bale or bag weight and how much loads per truck.
